Constantin Pavel was born on 27th April 1951 in Botosani, Romania. He graduated from the Popular School of Plastic Arts. He worked for six years in aviation and played football as a wing in the Division B team Bacau. Constantin Pavel is currently working as a freelance cartoonist, illustrator, art teacher, and art editor. He has published his cartoons in many newspapers and magazines in Romania and abroad. His artworks appeared in many international periodicals, e.g. Hürriyet Vakfi (Turkey), Yomiuri Shimbun (Japan), Safarir (Canada), Der Spiegel, Eulenspiegel (Germany), Nebelspalter (Switzerland), Smithsonian Air, Witt (England), Witty World (USA), Croc (Canada) and many others (France, Yugoslavia, Belgium, Holland, Italy, etc). Constantin Pavel is active also as a film maker – he created about 10 animated films. He has illustrated several books and created a number of posters. He presented his creative work at a number of individual and innumerable collective exhibitions worldwide. Pavel participated in many national and international cartoon competitions and his artworks have been awarded numerous prestigious prizes and honorable mentions all over the world (we can mention at least some of them: Vercelli (Italy) – 1st Prize; Montreal (Canada) – 1st Prize; Gabrovo (Bulgaria) – “Apropo’s Prize”; Ancona (Italy) – Special Prize; Piracicaba (Brazil) – Mayor’s Prize; Tokyo (Japan) – “Hidenzo Kondo” Prize; Essen (Germany) – Special Prize; Knokke Heist (Belgium) – Press Prize; Budapest (Hungary) – “Vita” Prize; Seoul (Korea) – Special Prize; Duisburg (Germany) – Press Prize; Sintra (Portugal) – 1st Prize; Vianden (Luxembourg) – 1st Prize; Braila (Brazil) – Grand Prize (twice); and many others). Constantin Pavel is a former President of FECO – Romania. He is living and working in Focsani, Romania.
