Agim Sulaj was born on 6th September 1960 in Tirana, Albania. In 1979, already in his 19 he won the special reward at the traditional competition of satire and humor of magazine “Hosteni”. Agim completed his studies at the Fine Arts Academy of Tirana in 1985. As a painter, he started working in the political and satirical magazine “Hosteni”, producing illustrations and caricatures. At the same time, he was developing the skill of hyperrealistic painting. Agim Sulaj presented his artworks at his first individual exhibition in the National Gallery in Tirana in 1986. In 1994 he moved to Italy and settled in the city of Rimini. Currently is working as a freelance artist – painter, illustrator and cartoonist. His artworks appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines in Albania, Italy and abroad. Famous are also his posters. He participated at numerous international cartoon competitions and was awarded more than 70 prestigious prizes (let us mention at least some of them: 1988 – First prize in the Balkan Cartoon Prize „Man and Enviroment“, Seres (Greece), 2010 – Grand Prix Cartoon Sea, 2nd National Contest of Humor and Satire – Fano, Italy, 2012 – First prize at the Salon International du Cartoon and Caricature – Vianden, Luxembourg). Mr. Sulaj is often invited to be a member of juries of international cartoon contests worldwide. Artworks by Agim Sulaj have been exhibited at a great number of personal and collective exhibitions in many countries of the world. His works of art are in permanent collections of several museums and galleries in Europe and USA, as well as in private collections. He is living and working in Rimini, Italy.
