Steven Bonello was born in 1961 in Malta. He is a self-taught artist, cartoonist and illustrator. Steve has been drawing consistently since 1980 and he is concentrated mainly to cartoons and illustrations since 1984. He participated at the first collective exhibition „Wirja Bla Isem“ in 1985, followed by the second one called „ Reality, Face to Face“ in 1986. His first personal exhibition took place in the National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta, Malta in 1988. In 1989, Steve Bonello was invited along with a few other Maltese artists to exhibit in „Galleria Renzo Spagnoli“ in Florence, Italy. His drawing „Maltese Metropolis“ was published in Italian newspaper „La Nazione“ and later included in „The International Dictionary of Artists who painted Malta“ written by Nicolas de Piro. The second solo exhibition of his creative work presented Steve Bonello in 1991 in Malta and participated in several exhibitions internationally. Since 1991, he is a regular contributor of “Sunday Times” of Malta for which he creates editorial cartoons. He illustrated several books (“Developing Leadership Skills” by Alfred Darmanin in 1992, “L-istejjer tar-Ronnie” by Prof. Joe Frigieri in 1994, “Transition from Primary to Secondary in Malta – Time to Break the Mould?” by Grace Grima and Josette Farrugia in 2006, “Aktar Stejjer tar-Ronnie! by Prof. Joe Frigieri in 2007). In 2002-3 Steve Bonello was commissioned to do a monthly cartoon strip concerning Malta’s entry into the European Union. During Malta’s EU pre-accession information campaign he contributed illustrations and designed campaign billboards. Steve Bonello lives and works in Malta.
